While industry codes and standards may be daunting, familiarity with relevant codes and standards is necessary for all designers who work within the constructed spaceWhether you work in residential, commercial, hospitality, educational, or healthcare spaces, it is vital to have a working understanding of codes and standards that must be adhered to and implemented in your workBuild your code confidence by reviewing some critical interior design codes and standards, learn how they are applied, and where to find relevant information. Our mission as interior designers is to protect the life, health, safety and welfare of building occupants – and compliance with codes and standards is one we can ensure that mission is met.

Tracey Fillmore, NCIDQ, ASID, CAPS, Green AP, RID (FL) currently serves as a Senior Facilities Designer for Lee Health, a large healthcare organization on the southwest coast of Florida. Prior to becoming an Interior Designer, Tracey was a Fire Safety Inspector and owned her own construction/design firm. Tracey has utilized her codes and construction knowledge to effectively design in many types of occupancies. Tracey recently served as Chair of the ASID Advocate by Design (AxD) Council for four years, and she currently chairs the Policy, Codes, and Standards Committee. She is a strong proponent for advocacy in the interior design profession and sits on two National Fire Protection Association Technical Committees. She also serves on an international coalition working toward creating the only international fire safety standards with over 60 countries represented [International Fire Safety Standards Coalition]. When Tracey is not working in the healthcare facilities and advocating with and for her colleagues, she enjoys spending time with her three young adult children and her amazing granddaughter. 

Virginia Weida is founder, President, and CEO of Virginia Weida Designs, LCC, founded in 2006 and thriving ever since. With over 30 years of experience, she specializes in Corporate Facilities Consulting and Workplace Design for projects in the Pittsburgh region and nationwide. A Certified Interior Designer, Certified Facility Manager, and LEED and WELL Accredited Professional, Virginia Weida credits her educational experience at Cornell University with providing the tools for success as a design professional in Commercial Real Estate. She brings a unique skill trifecta of interior design, facilities management, and sustainability & wellness expertise to every venture. She fervently believes that design matters for all and excels at innovative solutions to support businesses in meeting their project goals in a cost-effective manner to help them flourish.
